The Motorola Edge 70 Plus offers one of the best battery lives in the mid-range segment. On the other hand, you have to accept a few compromises, for example in the build quality or processing performance. We summarize our findings from the review.
Beyond 23 hours, the pickings get pretty slim when looking for smartphones that last even longer in our test.
However, thanks to ever-improving battery technology, more and more devices are reaching this mark, including the Motorola Edge 70 Plus, which lasts 23:42 hours.
The Edge 70 Plus’s long battery life makes a lot possible
This means its 6,500-mAh battery delivers very good endurance: Two busy days with lots of smartphone use shouldn’t be a problem, and even a somewhat longer train journey can be easily endured with the Edge 70 Plus. When the smartphone needs to be plugged in again, it charges at up to 45 watts and takes no more than two hours to fully recharge.
It can even power external devices: Simply connect them to the USB port and charge them at up to 7.5 watts. However, the Edge 70 Plus does not support wireless charging.
The plus refers almost exclusively to the battery
The name might suggest that the Motorola Edge 70 Plus is a better version of the Edge 70, but the latter offers better specs in many areas and is also considerably more expensive at its manufacturer’s suggested price. The Edge 70 Plus is currently available in Europe and the Middle East, e.g. for around US$ 670 at amazon.de.
For instance, the Plus model doesn’t have the Edge 70’s particularly slim chassis, instead opting for a larger battery. But its display is also impressive: It gets quite bright, and HDR content can be enjoyed on it at a good peak brightness.
The Motorola phone makes some compromises, too
But Motorola had to cut costs somewhere to fund the large battery: For example, you can hear creaking noises from the chassis, and the phone lacks protection against water immersion.
Wi-Fi is also really slow compared to similarly priced phones, and while the rear main camera has a 200-megapixel sensor, it stands alone, apart from a very low-resolution macro camera.
Why we still like the Motorola Edge 70 Plus is explained in our detailed smartphone review.
