MagSafe seems to work like magic. Luckily, there are no tricks here, just some good magnetic attraction. At ZDNET, I’ve tested dozens of MagSafe accessories, from battery packs to wallets, phone cases, tripods, and more, and other team experts have reviewed even more niche MagSafe gear, like SSDs and voice recorders. But my favorite accessory is still MagSafe wireless chargers.

In particular, I prefer multi-purpose MagSafe charging setups — ones that can charge my Apple Watch and AirPods at the same time as my iPhone — more than anything else. But I find many people skip out on these gizmos, for one reason or another, often citing price, size, or loyalty to a handy USB-C cable (bonus points if it’s an extra long 6ft version) for bedside charging.

Here are three reasons you should upgrade to a MagSafe wireless charger on your nightstand — and why.

1. Eliminates cord clutter

One of the best reasons to invest in a wireless MagSafe charging setup for your bedside is the most obvious: fewer cords, less clutter, and a more streamlined look. This is especially important if you charge multiple devices in the same spot — a MagSafe multi-charger can cancel the need for multiple cords that easily snag and tangle with each other.

And while I know many people love the uber-long iPhone charging cables (myself included), it’s not recommended to keep using those cords around your bed. These cables can get trapped under covers if you’re a frequent phone-in-bed user, increasing the risk of overheating and even lithium-ion fires.

Note: If you are using one of these cords and charging in bed, stay alert, and make sure to rest your charging device on a hard surface before falling asleep.

2. Optimizes your charging (and space)

If you own multiple devices that you charge with individual cords, it may be time to consolidate them. MagSafe wireless chargers come in tons of configurations and use cases, ranging from horizontal or vertical orientations to dual or triple wireless charging.

Instead of having several cords that do one job, you can have one charging unit by your bedside that does it all. And trust me, the up-front cost is well worth it. Plus, if you’re short on space, vertical upright chargers with stands can free up a lot of room on a nightstand or desk, while lay-flat chargers (like the one above) are perfect for those with a roomier tabletop. And if you just need to charge one device? Singular wireless chargers are available, too.

Bonus: Foldable charging stations are great for those who want to only purchase one setup that works for both home and away.

3. The bonus features

MagSafe wireless chargers often don’t just power up your devices. Some are foldable for traveling, some collapse down for sleek storage, and others feature rotating components, stand features, and more. If you choose an upright charging setup, like the Twelve South HiRise 2 Deluxe, you can utilize your iPhone in StandBy mode, or use it as support for entertainment and streaming.
