During the Android Show I/O Edition 2026 keynote, Google announced a meaningful improvement to the iOS to Android migration process, as it now supports more types of data. Right now, going from iOS to Android will mean you’ll lose a large portion of your data.

Google and Apple make it easier to switch from iOS to Android

Starting with Android 17, you will be able to transfer from an iPhone to Android much more easily. The feature expands its capabilities, and it can now transfer accessibility settings, alarms, apps (free apps with user data), calendar entries, call history, email accounts, eSIM, files like images, videos, etc., messages, notes, passwords, wallpapers, WhatsApp data and even home screen layout.

There’s a catch, though. Just like most recent features, like Circle to Search functionality, the upgraded switch will be made available on Galaxy and Pixel phones first. The new switch will likely debut with Android 17 and Samsung’s One UI 9 that will come with the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip8, Z Fold8 and the Z Fold8 Wide this July. The feature will then trickle down to other Android phones.

Samsung has already kicked off the One UI 9.0 beta program, so we might get to see the upgraded Smart Switch sooner than expected.
