iOS 27 to bring customization to the camera app

Apple is unveiling iOS 27 on June 8, and a new report from the usually very reliable Mark Gurman at Bloomberg brings us more details about it. According to him, the camera app will become customizable in iOS 27. You will be able to choose which features you want to see in the app and where they’re placed. This includes the controls for the flash, exposure, the timer, night mode, live photos, and the resolution, apparently.

You will get a new Siri mode in the camera app as well, alongside the usual photo and video options. This will let you use its Visual Intelligence abilities to identify what you’re pointing your phone’s camera at, or translate text.

iOS 27 will also allegedly include “noticeable design changes” when it comes to Siri, the system search, as well as apps like Safari, Image Playground, and Weather. There will be new animations too, and “redesigned tab bars”. These UI changes “are meant to streamline the Liquid Glass design language”, Gurman says.

Siri will be fully revamped in iOS 27, turning into a full-fledged chatbot powered by Google’s Gemini models. It will be found in the Dynamic Island interface, and as rumored already, you will be able to toggle between using Siri’s built-in models and third-party offerings like ChatGPT. Siri will also have a standalone app for the first time.

Safari will get a new start page with four tabs across the top, showing favorites, bookmarks, a reading list of your saved articles, and your browsing history. The Weather app will have a new Conditions panel on the main page for a city, and Image Playground has been completely redesigned.
