The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Wide is rumored to miss out on a 200MP camera

The upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Wide will slot in between the Z Flip and Z Fold – it will be a horizontal foldable, but it will be smaller and will open to reveal a wider aspect ratio screen than Z Fold8’s squarish proportions. But will this device be closer to the Flip or to the Fold in terms of hardware?

Well, as far as cameras are concerned, the answer is “closer to the Flip”. According to a report published by GalaxyClub and SamMobile, the Wide will have a 50MP f/1.8 main camera rather than a 200MP sensor like the regular Z Fold.

There is a bit of good news – the ultra-wide camera is set to also have a 50MP sensor (with an f/1.9 lens). This will match the Z Fold8 ultra-wide camera and it is better than the rumored Galaxy Z Flip8 camera setup that pairs a 50MP main with only a 12MP ultra-wide.

Leaked info on the Galaxy Z Fold8 suggests a new dedicated telephoto camera – a 12MP 3x unit to replace the old 10MP 3x module – and a new 50MP ultra-wide (up from 12MP). We’ve known for a while now that the Galaxy Z Fold Wide will only have two cameras on its back (e.g. you can see it on the dummy unit and these renders), but there was always the hope of a 200MP sensor in the main.

With a 200MP main, the phone would have offered good 2x and decent 4x zoom capabilities even without a dedicated telephoto lens. Instead, the zoom quality will be on par with the Galaxy Z Flip8.

The Z Fold Wide will have two other cameras on board – two 10MP selfie cameras (one on each screen), which will have smaller punch holes similar to the regular Z Fold8.

Finally, the two posts from today confirm a report from mid-March that both the Galaxy Z Fold Wide and Galaxy Z Fold8 will have bigger batteries than the Z Fold7 at 4,800mAh and 5,000mAh, respectively. This is in comparison with 4,400mAh for the Z Fold7 and 4,300mAh for the Z Flip7. The new Z Flip8 isn’t getting a battery upgrade, by the way.

While the date isn’t official yet, the Galaxy Unpacked for the new Z foldables is expected on July 22.
