Partnership will establish an offshore development centre in India to support global R&D across 5G, AI and automation

L&T Technology Services (LTTS) has signed a five-year agreement with Finnish telecommunications company Nokia to support its engineering and research and development (R&D) activities in India. The contract covers product engineering, software development, system integration and product support, with a dedicated team set to work alongside Nokia’s global engineering and R&D teams.

Under the agreement, LTTS will establish an offshore development centre (ODC) in India and create a separate engineering team to support Nokia’s global Technology Centre. The collaboration will focus on 5G networks, intelligent automation, artificial intelligence (AI)-driven operations and AI infrastructure.

Dedicated Engineering Centre

The planned offshore development centre will provide engineering and technical support for Nokia’s global requirements. LTTS will deploy a dedicated team to work on projects spanning product development, software engineering and system integration.

The arrangement is intended to strengthen collaboration between the two companies while extending India’s role in supporting Nokia’s engineering operations. The agreement also covers product support, broadening the scope beyond software development to include multiple aspects of the product engineering lifecycle.

Focus On 5G And AI

The engineering team will work across technologies including 5G networks, intelligent automation and AI-driven operations. AI infrastructure will also form part of the engagement as telecommunications companies develop capabilities to support increasingly complex network and computing requirements.

The collaboration will bring LTTS engineers into Nokia’s global R&D activities, with the teams working together on engineering programmes. The announcement does not specify the size of the dedicated team, the investment involved or the expected financial contribution of the contract.

India’s R&D Role

The agreement highlights the role of India-based engineering talent in supporting global technology development. Nokia Senior Vice President of Engineering Vivek Jaiswal highlighted India’s position as an innovation hub and LTTS’s contribution to expanding the company’s R&D presence.

For LTTS, the five-year engagement adds a long-term engineering partnership spanning telecommunications, software and AI-related technologies. For Nokia, the dedicated centre and engineering team will support its global technology activities through capabilities based in India.

The partnership places India-based engineering resources within a broader global R&D framework, with 5G, automation and AI infrastructure among the key areas of work over the contract period.
