Unlike basically all of its competitors, OnePlus decided to stay out of the Pro and Ultra branding game many years ago – for smartphones at least. Its flagships have just a number and no additional suffix, but according to a new rumor from a tipster over on X, that’s about to change this year.
Apparently people have been asking OnePlus for a Pro or Ultra flagship device, and the company has listened, planning to deliver this with the OnePlus 16. It’s still unclear if we’ll get the OnePlus 16 Pro or OnePlus 16 Ultra alongside the ‘vanilla’ OnePlus 16, but one of them is allegedly coming.

The Pro or Ultra will be “an all-rounder”, whatever that means. Maybe a model with better cameras? But if that’s going to happen, then is Oppo already giving up on its recent strategy of having Oppo as the camera-centric brand and OnePlus as the, well, not camera centric brand? We’ll have to wait and see.
After all, this could just be someone’s imagination running wild and nothing more. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.
