MediaTek is holding a launch event in China on January 15, and is expected to unveil two new chipsets on that occasion. Rumor has it will we finally see the much-anticipated Dimensity 8500 at this event, the successor to the 8450 and 8400, both highly regarded upper-midrange chipsets. The Honor Power2, which was unveiled earlier today, uses the Dimensity 8500 so the official announcement of the chip is more of a formality at this point.

The other SoC that’s due to be unveiled next week is more of a mystery, with rumors in China talking about a new 9-series chip, perhaps called Dimensity 9500s. This is allegedly an entirely new chipset, built on TSMC’s N3E 3nm process, boasting a CPU with one Cortex-X925 core clocked at up to 3.73GHz, three Cortex-X4 cores clocked at up to 3.3GHz, and four Cortex-A720 cores clocked at 2.4GHz. This CPU will apparently be paired with a Mali G925MC12 GPU operating at a frequency of 1,612MHz.
