Apple and the US MLS soccer organisation have partnered to include iPhone 17 Pro in the broadcast of the Inter Miami vs Vancouver Whitecaps final.

Four iPhone 17 Pro units will join the more than 30 cameras in broadcasting and streaming live from behind the goal and in the crowd to capture fans and their reactions.

Whenever you see the feed from one of the phones, there’ll be a “Shot on iPhone” tag on the screen.

MLS has reportedly been testing iPhones in its workflow for months leading up to the final. Its engineers have reportedly validated the iPhone’s latency, heat behaviour, wireless stability, and sync.

The iPhone was chosen, in part, because of its integrated ProRes workflow, which will allow the MLS team to color-match the iPhone’s footage to its broadcast.

It’s both a testament to the iPhone’s robust video capabilities but also to Apple’s marketing value to organizations such as MLS. Let’s be real, the iPhone isn’t a match for the high-end broadcasting equipment organizations like the MLS use, both in terms of image quality and streaming reliability.

But the iPhone is also immensely cheaper and way more popular. Slap a “Shot on iPhone” in a broadcast, and fans will take notice.
