We’re just a week away from Samsung unveiling the latest addition to its Galaxy S25 series lineup, and we’ve already seen leaks of the specs and images of Samsung’s new Galaxy S25 Edge. At 5.8 mm thick, it’s expected to be the world’s thinnest modern smartphone, and it’s also likely to feature a dual camera with a 200MP main telephoto lens.
Samsung is likely to reveal a lot more during its expected keynote next Monday, but like the best folding phones, a thin or folding display often means challenges with durability. Today, Samsung has revealed a plan for this, and the Galaxy S25 Edge will be the first smartphone to feature the new Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2.
Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 is the successor to Ceramic, which has protected screens on the best smartphones for the past year and recently made its way to flip phones with the new Motorola Razr Ultra 2025. Samsung EVP and Head of Mechanical R&D of Mobile, Kwangjin Bae, said:
Galaxy S25 Edge will set a new standard for craftsmanship and performance as our slimmest Galaxy S series device yet. To support this breakthrough design, it was essential to develop a display material that was both exceptionally thin and reliably strong.
Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 enhances durability and crack deflection in the next generation of ultra-thin smartphones, like Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 Air. It features crystals embedded within the glass matrix, and Corning’s ion exchange process further enhances the strength of and protection offered by the display cover.

The Galaxy S25 Edge is the first smartphone to feature this new glass. Samsung and Corning have yet to reveal further information about the latest protection or how much more durable it makes smartphones. However, with more phones going thinner and the Galaxy Z Fold 7 expected to be one of the thinnest phones yet, it’ll be interesting to see if this protection is exclusive to Samsung.

Samsung just blurted out the Galaxy S25 Edge’s ‘official’ pricing and storage options
Samsung has been quite a tease with its upcoming razor-thin (only, figuratively!) phone, first showcasing it at the Unpacked event back in January. Since then, the barrage of leaks has been let loose, giving us practically every piece of information — though mostly unverified — about Galaxy S25 Edge. Although the Edge was set to launch in mid-April, it was pushed ahead by a few weeks, with the latest rumor pointing at a May 13 announcement in Korea. Just a day after we learned that, we have learned about the Galaxy S25 Edge’s official pricing and storage options, and the leak comes not from a third party but Samsung itself.
Samsung’s Canadian website briefly listed the prices of the 256GB and 521GB variants of the Galaxy S25 Edge as part of a promotion for the recently launched Galaxy S10FE tablets. The webpage, as captured by trusted leaker Roland Quandt, shows what could possibly be the official MSRP of the upcoming slim phone. Quandt shared the screenshot on Bluesky, a social media platform built to replicate what Twitter used to be before Elon Musk bought it and rebranded it to X.

Galaxy S25 Edge launch date leaks again, and it’s good news
After the last possible announcement date for the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge passed us by without the phone making an appearance, we’ve got a new date to look forward to. Samsung will apparently hold an Unpacked launch event on May 13, and the phone will be available to pre-order from May 24.
However, the initial launch will take place in South Korea and China, according to The Financial News, a South Korean news source, quoting an anonymous industry source. The good news is, the source then revealed the Galaxy S25 Edge will be released in the U.S. and other global markets from May 20.

The Galaxy S25 doesn’t look like the success Samsung will have wanted
Samsung leads Apple in smartphone shipment market share, according to data from Counterpoint Research, and while this may appear good news for the brand, a deeper examination into two very different strategies indicates Samsung may not be happy with the situation at all. For the first three months of 2025, Samsung controlled 20% of the global smartphone market by device shipments, followed by Apple with 19%. This is “sell in” data, meaning devices purchased from the manufacturer by distributors. It is a considerable change over the data from the last three months of 2024, where Apple led with 23% of the market followed by Samsung with 16%.
This is crucial to understanding why Samsung may be looking at the latest figures, which on the outside appear positive, with concern. At the end of 2024 Apple would have been riding high on the release of the iPhone 16 series, while Samsung would have been far removed from the Galaxy S24 series and the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6’s release. It makes sense for Apple to command a higher market share right after the release of its flagship devices for the year.
