In recent months, there have been conflicting rumors about what to expect from the upcoming iPhone SE 4. However, the latest rumor may have clarified some of these uncertainties.

Leaker Majin Bu (via MacRumors) recently took to X to share mockup images (and a video) of the next budget iPhone. According to these images, the iPhone SE 4 will feature a traditional notch instead of the Dynamic Island that previous reports suggested. To the left of the notch, there appears to be a selfie camera and a single-lens rear camera. The images also indicate that the phone will have a glass back and an aluminum frame.

What seems to be missing from these mockups is any indication that the iPhone SE 4 will include an Action Button or a Camera Control button, suggesting that these features may not be part of the design after all.

Previous rumors suggest the new phone, which should arrive this spring, will include a 6.1-inch display, Face ID, and Apple’s first in-house 5G chip. The current iPhone SE 3, released in March 2022, offers a 4.7-inch display with Touch ID.  The new phone should have an A17 Pro chip with 8GB of RAM. We don’t expect to see the iPhone SE 4 support Apple Intelligence, the company’s new AI tools available on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 series.

Since the iPhone SE 3 is nearly three years old, it’s important for Apple to release an updated model. Typically, new versions are launched every two to three years. Similar to its predecessors, the next iPhone SE is expected to be priced below $500.

The iPhone SE 4 is one of five new iPhones anticipated to launch before the end of the year. The other models include the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and the all-new iPhone 17 Air, which may replace the iPhone Plus in the standard iPhone lineup. These phones are likely to be announced in September.

The iPhone SE 4 might feature the Dynamic Island instead of a notch

The back of the Apple iPhone SE (2022).

Newly-leaked images from tipster Evan Blass suggest the iPhone SE 4 might come with the Dynamic Island after all. Blass also shared code snippets that indicate several more yet-to-be-released Apple products, including the 11-inch iPad Air with M3, the 13-inch iPad Air with M3, the iPad 11th generation, and the iPhone SE 4th generation. Blass followed up his initial post with supposed visual assets for the devices, and notably enough, the iPhone SE 4 shows a Dynamic Island.

The Dynamic Island is faint. If you want to get a better look at it, we suggest making the image full-screen. Blass said he had color-corrected the image to make it more visible. However, Blass specifically stated that he had edited the image to make it more visible, so it’s confirmed that, in this image at least, the phone has the island.

I love Google Gemini, but I’ll take Apple Intelligence any day of the week

Gemini Advanced on the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

If you’re looking for the best AI experience on a phone, chances are two different AI makers come to mind. For the iPhone 16, Apple Intelligence is the answer, while for Pixel 9 series — and the best Android phones — it’s Google’s Gemini. Of course, you can also download Gemini as a standalone app on the iPhone, but Apple Intelligence is the default AI option.

Both companies offer a range of nearly identical features, at least in what they promise to offer, but there are also nuanced differences. Google Gemini is mostly focused on using AI to help you create, edit, and generate content. In contrast, Apple Intelligence focuses more on personal use cases and integration across a range of apps.

Gurman says waning iPhone SE stock could point to a new model

A close-up of the iPhone 14 Pro's camera module.

In the most recent release of his Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman — an Apple analyst and journalist — claims the rapidly shrinking stock of iPhone SE is a sign that a new model is just around the corner. The iPhone SE 4 has been the subject of numerous rumors and leaks, and experts have estimated a release window between March and April 2025.

Gurman’s observation that stock is running low at locations across the country is a good indication that a new release is imminent; otherwise, the supply would be a lot steadier and more consistent. And though the current iPhone SE is still available for purchase through the Apple Store, a release in the next few months would give the iPhone SE 4 a release date that matches the other SE models before it.
