Just a few months ago, Qualcomm had announced its flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite mobile chipset. It’s the most powerful Snapdragon chip ever and power ups the latest flagship devices like OnePlus 13 and iQOO 13. The manufacturer has now silently released a new variant of the flagship chipset with a slight modification in the core architecture.
Snapdragon 8 Elite 7-Core Version: What’s different?
The newly announced 7-core variant of Snapdragon 8 Elite remains largely similar to its original version. The only key different is in the number of cores. The original SoC gets 2 super cores and 6 performance cores, whereas the newer variant gets 2 super cores and 5 performance cores. So the original chipset has 2+6 configuration while the newer one has 2+5 configuration.
Apart from this, everything else remains unchanged. The super cores are still clocked at 4.35GHz while the performance cores get a clock speed of 3.53GHz. Rest other components such as X80 5G network modem, FastConnect 7900 support chipset remains the same.
The actual motive behind launching this new chipset remains a mystery. But from what we can guess, this chipset is probably launched with the motive to be featured on value flagships given that the high cost was already a problem with original Snapdragon 8 Elite. The newer variant offers similar performance and can be cheaper than the original one. Rest, it would be interesting to see its implementation in the upcoming devices.
