We are near the official launch of the successor of Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. This particular chipset, tipped to be Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is going to power nearly all the flagship Android devices. Whether it be the coming Xiaomi 15 series or the Realme GT 7 Pro, these devices are going to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset. However, in an interesting turn of events, a new rumour has claimed that Qualcomm has suddenly decided to change the name of its upcoming flagship chipset.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 may be renamed to Snapdragon 8 Elite

Digital Chat Station on Weibo has posted an image of a device with a Snapdragon Elite Gaming poster on the screen. He also adds a text on the post that reads “Snapdragon Elite.” While he has not explicitly mentioned that this is going to be the new name of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, there have already been a lot of rumours about the name change.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 4

The successor of Snapdragon 888, which was then supposed to Snapdragon 989 was also renamed to Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 by Qualcomm. We then saw the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and Gen 3. Now it’s time for the 8 Gen 4. But it looks like Qualcomm has now again decided to change the name of its flagship mobile chipset lineup. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 may now renamed to Snapdragon 8 Elite.

While there is no concrete information on the same, all these rumours and reports hint toward it. We may get to see the Snapdragon 8 Elite powered Xiaomi 15 series and not the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 powered. But don’t worry, there will be no change in any of the hardware specifications. The chipset will carry the same legacy of Snapdragon’s flagship lineup but with a different name. Let’s see how long it will take for us to adapt to the new naming, or if this is just an unconfirmed rumour that will never become a reality.
