Next Huawei Mate Air to continue circular camera design

Huawei Mate 70 Air

Huawei is developing the next-gen Mate Air smartphone, and it will retain the thin design specs of the previous generation, as revealed by Weibo tipster Fixed Focus Digital.

Last year, Huawei unveiled the Mate 70 Air with a thin design, closely following the Mate 70 Pro. It is 165 mm tall, 81.5 mm wide, and 6.6 mm thick compared to the Mate 70 Pro+’s 8.25 mm. The Mate 70 Air is lighter than other Mate 70 series models.

The Mate 70 Air has a 7-inch quad-curved display, with 1.07 billion colors, P3 wide color gamut, an OLED panel, 2160 Hz high-frequency PWM dimming, and up to a 300 Hz touch sampling rate. The display had 4000 nits peak brightness for a clearer viewing experience.

Despite its large display, the Mate 70 Air carries four cameras: a 50MP wide camera with a 1/1.3-inch sensor and an F1.8 aperture. The second is a 12MP RYYB telephoto camera, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle macro lens, and a 1.5 million multi-spectral channel red maple primary color lens. The front side has a 10.7MP ultra-wide-angle camera for selfies and 4K video recording.

It also has the biggest battery in a slim device, packing a 6500mAh capacity with 66W fast charging support.

On the performance side, the Mate 70 Air brings the Kirin 9020 processor paired with 12GB and 16GB RAM. The tipster notes the next Mate Air’s base model will have 12GB of RAM.

Huawei has already released new Kirin 9 chipsets and the next Mate Air could also bring at least the Kirin 9050 chip, if not an inferior one.

The leak indicates the new Mate Air phone would launch before the year’s end, or be delayed to early 2027.
