Apple is reportedly doubling orders for a new MacBook Neo
The MacBook Neo was a massive success. If component suppliers can be believed, Apple expects the second-gen model to do twice as well.
Apple is currently forecast to introduce the second-generation MacBook Neo in the first half of 2027, with some performance updates. When it does ship, Apple is seemingly betting the new model will be a much bigger seller than the first version.
According to DigiTimes, supply chain sources say they were given a shipment forecast from Apple for the MacBook Neo. The forecast is for 16 million units in 2027, double the 8 million units of the current 2026 run.
The comparison isn't quite a doubling of shipments if you use comparative timeframes. The MacBook Neo was announced and released in early March, meaning the 2026 shipments for the model cover ten months, not the twelve of a full year.
Expected continued success
The launch of the MacBook Neo was stratospheric for Apple, with then-CEO Tim Cook saying it was the "best launch week ever for first-time Mac customers."
It was so successful that Apple doubled production to keep up with demand. Suppliers were forced to race to catch up with Apple's increased order for the model in May.
The model was also credited with helping Apple buck the Q2 global PC sales slump, which saw Apple enjoy a 13% year-over-year increase in shipments.
For the second-gen model, current expectations are for it to use the A19 processor, along with a potential 12GB of memory. It may also expand its color range.
