Do you remember your first Apple device? I’m old — older than Apple, in fact — so it was a relatively early one, the Macintosh Classic, which hit the market in 1990 and which I inherited in 1993 at the age of 18.

Over the years I’ve owned iMacs and iPhones, iPods and iPads, MacBooks, and now a Mac mini — but even so, I wouldn’t describe myself as an Apple fanboy. No, I’m just a lover of great technology, and when Apple gets it right, it gets it very right.
Despite my long history with the brand, though, I’ve barely touched the surface of the many hundreds of devices it’s released over a half century since it was formed on 1 April 1976, and I doubt I’m unusual in that regard.

After all, Apple has done a lot in those 50 years, some of it great, some good, some best forgotten — but all a part of tech history.
