Spring has sprung, which means it’s time for another Amazon Big Spring Sale. This year, Bose’s latest premium headphones are on sale at their lowest price since their launch last September. The Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen) are currently on sale for $399, or $50 off their original price.

The QuietComfort Ultra Headphones 2 are a solid upgrade from Bose, featuring an extended 30-hour battery life, USB-C audio, an intuitive auto-low-power mode, and more customization options. They’re a great option for people who don’t want to be locked into a specific software ecosystem, as all these headphones’ features are available to users regardless of their device ecosystem.
Review: Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen)
Aside from the upgrades, the QuietComfort Ultra Headphones 2 build on what Bose does best, staying true to this product’s namesake: noise cancellation and all-day comfort. Bose’s noise cancellation is incredibly smooth, avoiding any discomfort in the ear. Bose’s signature sound is very warm and bass-heavy, which should be enjoyable to most people but might turn off those with critical ears.
Still, when combined, these features make for a very easy-to-wear pair of headphones, especially for people who like to wear them for long periods, such as when working, studying, or traveling. Bose’s focus on midrange tones delivers great dialogue reproduction, such as podcasts, TV shows, and movies.
Although Bose’s second-generation headphones offer slightly more customization than the first, the company is very judicious about how much control users can have over their headphones. Equalizer settings are limited to a 20-point scale for bass, mids, and treble. Additional codec support is limited, so most people are stuck with SBC or AAC, depending on which device they’re connected to. If you have a device that supports AptX codecs, you can access them with these headphones, but those codecs are harder to find than LDAC or LC3.
So, if you want a pair of well-performing headphones that are easy to use and don’t require much out of you to maximize their potential, the QuietComfort Ultra Headphones 2 are a shoo-in.
How I rated this deal
I rated this deal a 3.5/5 because I’d like to see them lower during a major sale. Before the new model arrived, the first-generation QuietComfort Ultra Headphones were often discounted to $379, and as low as $329. Therefore, I’d rate this product higher if they were $379. Still, I highly recommend these headphones, especially to people who want the best premium headphones without needing additional knowledge of codecs or equalizer bands to get the most out of them.
Additionally, Bose’s headphones are ecosystem-agnostic, meaning you can use all their best features with virtually any device. Their new power management feature and USB-C audio give them a leg up against their contemporaries from Sony and Apple, which is why they received a ZDNET Editors’ Choice award last year.
