Until recently, smartphone manufacturers focused their efforts on emerging markets, as the premium device segment seemed nearly saturated. However, the rapid surge in memory costs has forced companies to fundamentally change their strategies and pivot toward the high-end market.
Prices for RAM and storage have reached a point where components account for a significant portion of the cost of budget devices. Selling such units at previous prices has become economically unfeasible. Meanwhile, flagship models offer enough margin to offset these rising costs and target a less price-sensitive audience.
Based on these considerations, Oppo is seriously intent on expanding its footprint in the European region.
The European Premium Smartphone Market
Why choose Europe? According to analysts at Omdia, one in three phones sold in the first half of 2026 belonged to the premium category, priced at $600 or higher. Furthermore, Europe holds the second-largest share of premium devices globally, at 40%, with an annual growth rate of 9%. Only the isolated North American market holds a larger lead.
Inside Oppo’s Strategy
These indicators make Europe the largest accessible market for flagship products. The manufacturer’s plan is straightforward: Oppo will shorten the time gap between a smartphone’s debut in China and its release in European countries. This ensures new products hit the shelves faster, while public interest is still high. Such an approach also leaves competitors with less time to push their own new models without resistance.
This year, the time gap has already narrowed significantly, and the company intends to reduce or eliminate it entirely by next year. While accelerated launches will play a role, the company’s strategy extends to other areas as well.
Carrier and Financial Partnerships
Oppo is actively building partnerships with European carriers and financial institutions. This means the brand’s smartphones will become significantly more accessible through extensive distribution networks, and buyers will benefit from more convenient financing options, such as installments or credit.
The Future of Oppo’s Strategy
The company’s pivot toward the European premium segment is a logical and calculated step amid rising component costs. By accelerating product deliveries and deeply integrating with local carriers, the brand aims to compete more effectively for the wallets of European consumers and solidify its standing in this vital market.
