Gemini can now import your chat history from other AI chatbots

AI chatbots have become an intrinsic part of our online activity, and as usual, there are different camps. Some use ChatGPT while others prefer Claude or Google’s Gemini. These chatbots are programmed to learn from your behavior, interests and past interactions to serve you more relevant information and answers. So if you decide to switch from one AI service to another, you’d have to start from scratch, as your chat history won’t be available.

Google is making the switch much easier with the latest update to Gemini. The company has now added a new Import memory tool that lets you import your chat history from other AI chatbots.

Clicking on the “Import memory in Gemini” button generates a prompt you must paste into your current chatbot. Then copy the response, paste it into Gemini’s import tool text box and voilà!

This grants Gemini access to your personal preferences collected by your other chatbots, which in turn will help Gemini generate more contextual and personalized responses.

Alternatively, you can export your chat history from other chatbots and upload it to Gemini, but Google’s AI assistant supports ZIP files up to 5GB.

However, keep in mind that Gemini won’t be able to import project files or other attachments.
