'Is Microsoft Down?' Outlook and Teams Go Dark in Widespread Outage

Thursday was a tough work day for many — or maybe, a great one, depending on how eager you are to access work-related programs. Microsoft services, including Outlook, Teams and Microsoft 365, experienced a significant outage.

“We are working to address a service functionality issue,” a Microsoft spokesperson told CNET in an evening email. “A subset of customers may be intermittently impacted. For more information, please see updates via Microsoft 365 Status on X.”

The latest X post from the company offered some hope.

“We’re seeing continued improvements in service availability and functionality as a result of our load-balancing efforts,” a post from 6:46 p.m. PT reads. “We’re actively monitoring performance and making targeted adjustments to further improve stability and availability, while continuing recovery actions to ensure a reliable service experience.”

Microsoft hasn’t announced a timeline for when everything will be back up and running.

In addition to following the official Microsoft 365 Status account on the social-media platform X, you can also monitor Microsoft’s Service Health Status page. That page is noting that “users may be seeing degraded service functionality or be unable to access multiple Microsoft 365 services.”
