MediaTek introduced its flagship mobile chipset, the Dimensity 9500 SoC, in September last year, and has now followed it up with the new Dimensity 9500s. The company has also announced the mid-range Dimensity 8500 chipset alongside it.
Just like the Dimensity 9500, the new octa-core 9500s also features an ‘All Big Core’ architecture and is manufactured using a 3nm process.
MediaTek Dimensity 9500s
The Dimensity 9500s comes with a primary Arm Cortex-X925 Ultra core clocked at 3.73GHz. It also gets three Cortex-X4 premium cores and four Cortex-A720 performance cores. For graphics, the chipset gets an Immortalis-G925 GPU that supports advanced ray tracing, adaptive game technology 3.0, and frame technology 3.0. It packs a flagship NPU for ‘generative reasoning and multi-modal models’ support.
It gets the MediaTek Imagiq image processor for real-time motion tracking at up to 30fps, 8K 60 full-focus video recording with Dolby Vision HDR, and noise reduction. The chip supports up to a 320MP camera sensor and WQHD+ displays with up to 180Hz refresh rate.
The 9500s chipset also supports LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4 storage. It comes with Wi-Fi 7, dual SIM dual active 5G, GPS, BeiDou, Glonass, Galileo, NavIC, QZSS, Bluetooth 5.4, and the MediaTek UltraSave 4.0 power saving technology.
MediaTek Dimensity 8500
The Dimensity 8500 also features an All Big Core CPU design, but is manufactured using a more efficient 4nm process. It is equipped with eight Cortex-A725 cores clocked at up to 3.4GHz. It gets a Mali-G720 GPU that’s said to offer up to 25% improved performance and 20% lower power consumption compared to the previous generation.
It supports LPDDR5X 4-channel RAM, UFS 4 storage, and comes with a MediaTek 8th-gen NPU (880) that supports most large language and image generation models.
The chipset also gets Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.4, the same GPS satellite support as the flagship 9500s, dual SIM dual active 5G connectivity, and MediaTek UltraSave 3.0+.
As for imaging, the SoC supports a maximum camera sensor of 320MP, 4K 60fps video recording, and displays up to WQHD+ resolution and 144Hz refresh rate.
