HMD has introduced the Nokia 2360 Flip, a new feature phone with remote family-management capabilities, emergency alerts and parental controls. Despite these useful additions, the device comes with a significant connectivity limitation that could render it unusable in some markets.
HMD has officially introduced the Nokia 2360 Flip (not to be confused with the HMD 2660 Flip announced recently), a new feature phone designed primarily for elderly users that also has parental controls for children. Its biggest selling point is the ability for family members to configure and manage the device remotely.
However, one significant limitation is that the phone supports only 2G networks. The Nokia 2360 Flip operates exclusively on GSM 900/1800 MHz networks, with no 4G LTE support. This could severely restrict its usability in countries where 2G networks have already been discontinued, something that many carriers are rapidly phasing out.
The phone comes with HMD’s Family Assist application. It is available for Android and iOS and allows relatives to remotely add contacts, configure reminders, adjust volume levels and manage emergency settings. Communication happens over SMS, so the flip phone doesn’t need a mobile data connection.
There’s also a dedicated SOS button. Holding it for three seconds calls a predefined contact and simultaneously sends text messages to up to five emergency contacts. The phone also includes several child-friendly features. These include School Mode, which restricts functionality to the clock and emergency calls, contact whitelisting, and the ability to block individual applications. The restrictions are protected by a Family PIN.
According to the official specifications, the Nokia 2360 Flip features a 2.8-inch QVGA internal display and a smaller 1.77-inch QQVGA external screen. There’s also a basic QVGA camera with an LED flash, FM radio, a 3.5 mm headphone jack and USB-C connectivity. Hearing aid compatibility is supported. The phone runs HMD’s S30+ operating system with 4 MB of RAM and 4 MB of internal storage, expandable by up to 32 GB using a microSD card.
A removable 1,450 mAh battery promises up to 15 days of standby time or 27.5 hours of talk time. The Nokia 2360 Flip will be offered in Charcoal, Burgundy Red and Teal, although HMD hasn’t announced its pricing or retail availability yet.
