Good news — iOS 27 could finally bring an upgrade that

  • Apple may enhance autocorrect with iOS 27, according to new rumors
  • The upgrade is said to be similar to the Grammarly tool
  • A final decision has still to be taken on the feature

Apple is going to treat us to a first look at iOS 27 when the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) rolls around in June, and the software could come with a supercharged autocorrect feature to help you with your typing.

According to Mark Gurman at Bloomberg, Apple is considering a way of enhancing autocorrect by offering alternative words you might want to use — the approach is “similar to tools like Grammarly”, Gurman says.

Gurman is usually one of the more reliable tipsters when it comes to Apple rumors, but he also says that a final decision on the autocorrect update hasn’t been made. We’ll have to wait and see if it’s something Apple announces the month after next.

There are also no further details on how it works: if it is like Grammarly, it may act a little like a thesaurus and writing assistant, helping you to choose the right word every time. You can already get writing help on iOS with Apple Intelligence, of course.

A better autocorrect

It seems Apple is finally getting around to focusing on one of the biggest bugbears for many iPhone users with this potential update and other recent tweaks. Complaints about autocorrect and its accuracy on iOS stretch back years.

In the most recent iOS 26.4 update, we got what Apple described as “improved keyboard accuracy when typing quickly” — which should now mean fewer mistakes and ignored key presses for users who are trying to input text at a decent rate.

This iOS 27 update, if it does arrive, should improve autocorrect further — though it remains to be seen how useful the suggestions are, or how much they might interrupt the flow of your typing. In the meantime, users are turning to physical keyboards instead.

The main focus of iOS 27 is expected to be Siri, however. The digital assistant is believed to be getting a Google Gemini-powered AI upgrade as well as other new tricks, including support for third-party AI chatbots inside Siri itself.
