Back in August, Google introduced a smart feature that recognizes when you are in a conference room with other people and automatically launches companion mode to join Meet calls. It was exclusive to desktops/laptops until now, as Google has announced its availability for Android and iOS devices. The feature will follow a gradual rollout schedule over the next two weeks.
Automatic room check-in for Google Meet on Android
The feature simplifies the process of joining group meetings by using your device’s microphone to pick up ultrasonic signals within the room and automatically check you into the group call while avoiding echo interference from other members.
Automatic room check-in is now available across Google Meet and Gmail for Android and iOS. You’ll need to be running Meet (336.0) on Android/iOS or Gmail (2025.12.01) for Android and version 6.0.251201 for iOS. The feature is available for all Google Workspace customers and Workspace Individual subscribers.
