When we saw the first teaser, we thought that the Honor Robot Phone looked cool, but we questioned whether we would ever see a working prototype. Honor does indeed have prototypes, though it is saving the big reveal for MWC 2026 (which is scheduled in March). Okay, but it’s just a prototype, they’ll never sell such a phone, right?

Wrong – Weibo leakster SmartPikachu reports that the Honor Robot Phone will be mass produced in the first half of next year. We don’t know whether Honor is aiming for a global release or just a launch in China, but it is certainly intending to sell this crazy-looking device.

If you missed it the first time, here’s the teaser again. A gimbal camera – think DJI Osmo Pocket, not the extra fancy OIS that some brands use – can flip up from the back and form the “head” of the robot.

As the video shows, you can tuck this in your shirt pocket and record a vlog. Or you can mount it on a bike or car and go on an adventure. But there’s more to it than that.

The robot will have an AI image recognition model capable of recognizing emotions. And since it can turn its “head” to look at the world around it – including you – it will feel a lot more like what AI is in the movies compared to what you get when you type a question into ChatGPT.

Practicality is another matter – this is way more complicated than the pop-up cameras that we’ve had in the past. That said, we’re always glad to see innovative new designs – we can’t wait!

The Honor Robot Phone is expected to launch in August, though that hasn’t been confirmed officially.
