Winter is the ideal time to snuggle up on the couch for entertainment from comforting sitcoms to exhilarating sports. But the last thing you want while watching the game (or anything, really) is a lag. Luckily, the latest 4K model of the Google TV Streamer allows for a 22% faster processor and twice the memory of the previous iteration, with 32GB of storage to hold your favorite streaming apps.

ZDNET writer Maria Diaz has reviewed and recommended the Google TV Streamer, 4K and noted that the latest version has “simplified navigation, made it easier to rearrange apps, and improved the search feature — especially with voice control through Google.” The Streamer also doubles as a smart home hub, and includes Google TV Freeplay with 150 free, subscription-free channels, and a Sports Page in the For You tab, which includes “personalized updates and recommendations, live and scheduled games, highlights from YouTube, and sports commentary,” wrote Diaz.

The Streamer is best integrated with Google-made devices, though it can be used with Androids and iOS systems alike. Both Android and iOS users can use the Streamer to cast photos and videos to the device, though iOS users have to upload their content to the Google Photos app first in order to cast. Android users can also “ask Google on their phones to locate the remote using voice commands, but a physical button on the back of the Google TV Streamer makes the remote beep” if you lose it, plus the Google Home app (for Android and iOS) includes a button to ping your remote if needed.

The Google TV Streamer 4K is available in Haze and Porcelain, and is 25% off right now.

How I rated this deal

There are a fair amount of streaming devices on the market, but few that offer this level of integration and connection with the rest of the average smart home. What stands out to me about this streamer is how it lets you interact with various devices without pausing shows, offers voice-integration for searching media and locating lost remotes, and allows you to cast your own media to your screen. It’s a very good price for a great device.
