Apple’s new foldable iPhone will arrive in stores this week but customers can secure complimentary earbuds if they choose a substantially more affordable flip alternative. The iPhone Duo is scheduled to debut on Friday (October 23) at stockists throughout the UK and will represent Apple’s most costly model to date.

The Duo is described as ‘the most transformational change’ to the original 2007 model, but prices span from £1,999 to a staggering £3,199 when purchasing outright from retailers such as Apple and Argos. Monthly charges begin at £47 with Sky Mobile, while major networks like EE demand upwards of £90 per month on certain tariffs.

It’s reasonable to suggest some technology enthusiasts may be deterred by the Duo’s price point, so for those favouring a more budget-friendly option, we’ve identified a new offer on the Motorola Razr 70 Ultra that features free earbuds valued at £130. This Android flip handset – launched in May this year – is supplied with a set of Moto Buds Loop when purchased at Mobiles.co.uk, where a £44.99 per month package includes unlimited data, minutes and texts.

This represents a 24-month agreement with iD Mobile that carries an £89 upfront charge. It’s worth highlighting that monthly rates will climb during the minimum period, with the £44.99 package rising to £46.79 from April 2027 and £48.59 from April 2028.

The Motorola Razr 70 Ultra represents the manufacturer’s most high-end foldable handset, featuring a 6.96″ pOLED main display when open alongside a compact 4″ cover screen. It boasts a 50MP triple-lens camera system and is driven by Snapdragon’s 8 Elite processor and Android 16, delivering swift and seamless performance, reports the Mirror.

Motorola claims the battery can last up to 36 hours depending on usage, while owners can take advantage of a range of AI-powered tools through Moto AI 2.0 and Google Gemini. These encompass intelligent photo editing, circle to search and real-time translation.

Motorola’s Razr 70 Ultra goes head-to-head with Samsung’s newest flip phone, the Galaxy Z Flip8. This handset can be purchased at a 20% discount during Samsung’s pre-Black Friday sale using the code SW20, bringing the 256GB model down from £1,149 to £919.20.

This stands in contrast to £1,199 when purchasing the Razr 70 Ultra outright via Amazon. Samsung’s premium flip phone carries comparable physical specifications to the Razr 70 Ultra, with a 6.9″ main display and 4.1″ external screen.

Nevertheless, it features a single 50MP lens paired with a 12MP ultra-wide lens, and has a reduced battery life of approximately 31 hours. According to David Snelling, Technology Editor at the Daily Express, Samsung ‘rules the roost’ with its bendable smartphones, but Motorola has positioned itself as a strong contender with its Razr 70 Ultra.

“Samsung might rule the roost when it comes to bendable smartphones, but Motorola is fighting back. The Razr 70 Ultra, according to Motorola, is its most powerful flip phone to date.

“This device gets a 4″ external display for checking messages and quickly replying to emails, which then pops open to reveal a huge 6.96″ Extreme AMOLED screen. This bigger panel promises bright visuals and even comes with a speedy 165Hz refresh rate, making it ideal for whizzing through websites, watching movies and playing games.”

Nevertheless, David took issue with the Razr 70 Ultra’s hefty price point, noting it’s ‘not cheap’. The handset is said to deliver ‘plenty of oomph’ in return for the additional outlay, as David went on to explain: “Under the flexible clamshell design is a rapid Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, which offers plenty of oomph, and there’s a big 5,000mAh battery for all-day usage.

“It gets fast 68W TurboPower charging, a durable Corning Gorilla Glass design and a dual-lens camera with a 50MP LOFIC sensor that captures up to six times more dynamic range.”
