Recently Huawei has unveiled the world’s first tri-fold smartphone, the Huawei Mate XT, in China. The smartphone has sparked a huge hype upon its release. Now after Huawei, Xiaomi could be the second brand to release a tri-fold design smartphone.
The tri-fold smartphones are a more evolved form of a conventional foldable smartphone. The screen can be unfolded or folded twice bringing the benefits of both a normal candy bar phone as well as a large tablet. Imagine a 10 inch tablet which can easily fit in your pocket, yes it’s all possible thanks to tri-fold smartphones.
Leaked Patents
From 91mobiles, Xiaomi has filed a new patent at China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) which reveals the design of what could potentially be Xiaomi’s tri-fold smartphone. As per the renders the form factor is very similar to Huawei Mate XT, where a screen can unfolded into different sizes. Tri-fold phone engineering is more complex than a conventional foldable phone mainly because of a more complex three honge design.
The new Xiaomi tri-fold phone may have a horizontal triple camera bar as per patent. Xiaomi’s Tri-Fold phone has been in talks for quite a while but now we finally got to see the first glimpse at it. The smartphone perhaps belongs to MIX family as Xiaomi MIX series is known for trying out innovative screen forms.
Xiaomi’s first tri-fold smartphone could be released in late 2025. However, the launch details are unknown and we expect there is still a time for its release. Also the price of tri-fold phones is significantly high compared to conventional foldable phones.
